The song drops ahead of his debut album
The Valory Music Co.’s Country newcomer Preston Cooper taps into unmasked emotion to confront his fears and fulfill his calling with his latest track, "The Takedown." Co-written by Cooper with hit songwriter Brett Warren, the track is a bold exploration of the doubt that comes with stepping away from the familiar and taking a gamble on the unknown. With Cooper’s scorching vocals at the forefront, backed by a dynamic blend of organ, electric guitar and punchy percussion, the song captures the magnitude of taking a leap of faith. A personal reflection on leaving his hometown to pursue a dream in Nashville, “The Takedown” captures the heart of Preston’s debut album, Toledo Talkin’, out August 29th.
“‘The Takedown’ came from a conversation Brett Warren and I were having about how to overcome being homesick,” shares Preston. “Brett encouraged me to take down the old photos and fully dive into the music. This song is about acknowledging where you came from while also looking forward. You may have to make sacrifices to pursue something new, but if you believe in yourself and what you’re doing, it will be worth it.”
“The Takedown” will be featured on forthcoming album Toledo Talkin’, alongside current chart-climbing single “Weak,” previously released emotive rocker “One More Place I’ve Never Been,” “Numbers On A Mailbox,” and “One For The Road.” Built on chasing dreams, battling doubts, and learning where you stand, Toledo Talkin’ finds a small-town phenom exploring his creative coming of age, matching stadium-sized potential to plainspoken Midwestern roots.
