Priscilla Block shares 'You're Breaking My Heart (Cecilia)'
Mercury Nashville
The song infuses fiery "Jolene" energy into the 1970s classic "Cecilia"
Priscilla Block puts her trademark sass on a bold reimagination of Simon & Garfunkel’s timeless “Cecilia” with her new song “You’re Breaking My Heart (Cecilia),” out now via Mercury Nashville.
From Simon & Garfunkel’s 1970 Grammy Album of the Year-winning record Bridge Over Troubled Water, “Cecilia” tells a story of love gone wrong; however, Block’s “You’re Breaking My Heart (Cecilia)” flips the script. Block’s version tells off the “other woman” with the hands-off-my-man attitude of Dolly Parton’s iconic, Grammy-nominated hit “Jolene,” in an emotional tug-of-war that’s equally playful as it is piercing.
“Some of my all-time favorite songs are modern takes on old classics, and when I heard this one, it just felt right,” says Block. “My mom grew up listening to ‘Cecilia,’ and to me, it has that same timeless pull — like a modern-day ‘Jolene.’ I hope y’all love it 🤎.”
“You’re Breaking My Heart (Cecilia)” was written by the Nashville songwriting community’s finest, including Grammy Songwriter of the Year Jessie Jo Dillon, Muscle Shoals-raised eight-time No.1 songwriter Chris Tompkins, two-time Grammy-nominated Jesse Frasure, and platinum-selling artist Hailey Whitters.
The track was produced by multi-platinum selling, four-time Grammy Award-winning Record Producer and Songwriter David Garcia.
Block is expected to announce new music in the coming weeks and will join Cole Swindell’s Happy Hour Sad Tour this fall.
