The superstar returns after three years, breaking a new record on the run
After performing three sold-out shows at SoFi Stadium on the After Hours Til Dawn Tour in 2022, The Weeknd returns to the Los Angeles venue for four more sold-out shows this week on the trek’s 2025 leg. The R&B superstar makes history with the most sold-out shows by a male artist at the stadium, with seven sold-out dates on one tour, and it's clear why. The guy has the charisma and charm many desire, and the hooks that turn into earworms that fans love!
The Weeknd, whose legal name is Abel Tesfaye, has brought rapper Playboi Carti and longtime collaborator Mike Dean for the ride. The star is on tour in support of his latest album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, and its accompanying film of the same name.
The Weeknd hit the stage just before 9 pm, where he tore through around 40 songs with different production than the 2022-2023 run. This year, the superstar uses an expansive gold-themed stage with a massive catwalk, a rotating light-up statue, and hoops with the same broken cityscape from the previous run. A screen estimated to stand about 75 feet tall towers behind the staging, giving fans a grandiose viewpoint from anywhere throughout the venue. His soaring vocals rang through the rafters with album motif colors adding to the esteemed production.
"Night one of SoFi was pretty fucking crazy. [I'm] not gonna lie to you," he shared after "Starboy" and removing the eye-glowing silver metallic mask he was wearing. "You guys are fucking loud tonight man, but i can’t speak too soon. We have to see if it’s going to be louder than night one."
The Weeknd had the crowd in the palm of his hand all night. From the opening of "The Abyss" through the closer of "Moth to a Flame," the global superstar proves he's a force to be reckoned with. In "The Hills," he replaced the lyrics "Who are you to judge?" with "I couldn't escape Los Angeles if I tried," as fire erupted with each beat. Tesfaye led the audience on a sing-along verse on "One of the Girls," as he took in the moment. He even welcomed Carti back to join him on "Timeless" and "Rather Lie," and walked through the crowd, touching eager fans' hands briefly.
The Los Angeles run continues with two more shows on June 28th and 29th, proving the star power of the "Blinding Lights" singer. In celebration, the City of Inglewood issued a proclamation declaring June 25–29, 2025, as The Weeknd Week.
As part of the run, The Weeknd has partnered with Global Citizen to help drive positive change. The superstar donates one dollar from every ticket sold to support children from vulnerable communities globally.
Carti's shortened opening set with heart-pounding bass, loops, and a Vegas-style lightshow got the fans on their feet the entire time. Dressed in all black and gold chains, the rapper paraded throughout the stage, while "I Am Music" was displayed on the screen behind him. Despite performing four songs and not bringing out any special guests (unlike the first night, which saw Travis Scott join for three songs), the audience was loud and raucous. It was also the first time I experienced an opener perform louder than the headliner, something Carti is known for.
The Weeknd’s record-breaking 2022/2023 After Hours Til Dawn Tour achieved incredible global success, with legs spanning North America, Europe, the UK, and Latin America. The tour wrapped with 60 sold-out stadium dates and more than three million attendees, breaking attendance records at multiple venues, including London Stadium, and instantly selling out a one-night-only stadium show in São Paulo, Brazil, last year. Earlier this month, the global phenom became the top-grossing male black artist ever at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, after a record-breaking weekend of three completely sold-out shows, drawing over 163,000 fans.
