Universal Japan to reissue all 20 Aerosmith albums in mini LP jackets

Universal Japan to reissue all 20 Aerosmith albums in mini LP jackets

Universal Music Japan

The reissue campaign features 15 studio albums and five live releases

All 20 non-best-of albums by rock legend Aerosmith will be reissued on SHM-CD in mini-LP paper jackets. On August 23, 2021, Aerosmith signed a worldwide distribution contract with Universal Music Group, and two years later, on August 18, 2023, their monumental all-time best album, Greatest Hits, was released in multi-format to celebrate their 50th anniversary since their debut. The best-of project contains several innovative hits that they have released over five decades since the 1970s, and has been a best-seller worldwide.

The reissue campaign will be divided into four parts and is based on the original artwork, with the reproduction of OBI specifications from the first release in Japan. Aerosmith's back catalog has been reissued many times and has been listened to by fans globally across generations, but this time the band has supervised the artwork and picked bonus tracks for each. This is the first time that bonus tracks have been added to the reissue of Aerosmith's original albums.

The first wave, scheduled for release on Wednesday, July 30th, will be the first seven albums from their time with Columbia. The original artwork of their shocking debut album, Birth of the Beast [Aerosmith I], released in 1973, will be reproduced as it was when it was first released in the US, and the English liner notes that were written on the back of the LP jacket will also be translated. All seven albums have been remastered by Ryan Smith in 2013.

The second wave will feature four albums from their time with Geffen, the third wave features the four albums with their Columbia return, while the fourth wave will feature the band's numerous live albums.

Additionally, as a bonus for purchasing via Tower Records (including online/excluding some stores), an A4-sized clear file featuring an original illustration by Sumiko Arai, the author of the comic Kininatte ni Hito ga Otoko Jananai (I Wasn't Guy). This comic has attracted attention for featuring songs by not only Aerosmith but also Western artists and is also set to be made into an anime. The original illustration shows the two main characters of the comic listening to an Aerosmith album in a car.
